There are 700 islands in the Bahamas, plus many more small cays. The Nassauvians consider any place other than New Providence Island to be the Out Islands, the 'burbs. Many are uninhabited. I have been fortunate to get to see several of them.

This satellite shot has been cropped slightly to fit the page.
Missing are Mayaguana and the Inaguas, off the southeast corner of the map.

Hopetown, The Abacos. Another postcard. This is probably the best
known landmark in all of the Bahamas. I only got to see it for the
first time in spring 2005.

Chub Cay, The Berry Islands, located at the southeast edge of the
Berry Islands, about 45 miles northwest of Nassau.

Scotland Cay, The Abacos. It is a private residential community and
the last land fall east of Freeport before the Azores!

February Point Bay, Great Exuma. Quite magnificent, from the
hillsides, beaches or from the air. One of those places that are as
stunning in reality as they are in photographs.

Ocean view on Cat Island. Same old boring colours, right? This
island has some hills as well, in fact the highest point in the
Bahamas. I had some time so I scaled it, to the top where there is
an abandoned monastery.

Briland, as the locals call it, looking west towards North Eleuthera. The island is Harbour Island.
